Lord Walney is torturing the law

Three women wearing Scold’s Bridles, a medieval torture device used to suppress women who speak out, stood outside The Royal Courts of Justice to highlight the corrupt jail terms handed out to activists by oil and gas lobbyist Lord Walney.

This scene highlights the silencing of those protesting against the oil and gas (and defence) industry by exposing the revolving door between governments and corporate greed, where industry interests infiltrate decision-making and undermine democracy.

The Government must stop employing and acting on the advice of so-called ‘independent’ advisors. The citizens of the UK have a right to protest, this right has won us many freedoms. When we allow Lord Walney the space to represent his corporate interests at the level of law we lose those rights. Free the ‘Lord Walney 16’.
