BLIND TO THE TRUTH. PRESIDENT MACRON ANNOUNCES ‘MORE OF THE SAME’ AT UNOC 2025

President Macron was back at UNOC 2025 in Nice to announce no new plans to save the Ocean and marine life from annihilation.

In fact he was so blinded by his own delusions of grandeur that he didn’t realise what a tissue of lies he was spouting.

⬆️ German MEP Carola Rackete in the Green Zone at UNOC 2025, modelling our T-shirt printed with the same slogan that was banned from the Green Zone earlier in the week, explains how Macron is watering down plans to protect Marine Protected Areas (What! They’re not actually protected from industrial fishing? What are they protected from, Alien Invasion?). And allowing EU industrial fishers to steal fish from coastal communities placing them under threat of starvation.

The fate of the Ocean depends on us all.
Our interventions depend on your support.

Macron, take off your blindfold and start seeing the mess you are making. France can lead the world by really protecting the Ocean. Imagine how wonderful our Ocean would be if it were teaming with life? Guess what, this is possible! The EU is the world’s largest marine territory, with half its population living within 50 miles of a coastline. And France’s colonial past means it ‘owns’ the world’s second largest maritime space, at over 10 million Km2 (second only to the US). It’s time for Macron to stop listening to industrial fishing and start leading the world by truly protecting the Ocean.

It’s time for zero nets and an end to trawling. The EU, led by France, can start by really protecting Marine Protected Areas with no destructive fishing practices and banning trawling across the EU fishing fleet. By sending out a clear commitment to the Ocean the EU will lead the world by turning the tide against marine biodiversity loss. By saying no to the global fishing industry and yes to its own citizens, the EU can restore wonder and pride in its seas. Which, with the right subsidies and policies, will help coastal communities become custodians of their local seas and care for the Ocean.

And should any nation own any of the Ocean? Surely it belongs to itself, the wondrous creatures who call it home, and the people who really rely on it for sustenance. We need to learn from our past and care for the Ocean. After all, as the sea dies we die.
