LLOYD’S OF LONDON ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET FOR TRUMP

Lloyd’s of London rolled out the red carpet and welcomed their favourite Gas Bros duo, Trump and Scrubby, to their office at One Lime Street.

The Gas Bros, are visiting Lloyd’s to celebrate the insurer’s continued support of the gas and oil industry, they even created an extra special rendition of ‘YMCA’ to mark the occasion.

Why are Donald and Scrubby so happy with Lloyd’s of London?

It’s simply because Lloyd’s of London insures Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industries—its extraction, its processing and its shipping. By insuring all these parts of the LNG industry Lloyd’s is ensuring we are all locked into LNG use for at least the next 30 years, even when this means devastating marine environments and ratcheting up global warming.

Lng is 33% more polluting que el carbón

The Coral Triangle is the global centre of marine biodiversity, sustaining millions of lives. While occupying just 1.5% of the world’s area, it supports 30% of global coral reefs, 75% of reef-building coral species (~600 species), 6 out of 7 global marine turtle species and over 2,000 species of reef fish.

All this is under threat. Plans insured by Lloyd’s of London (among others) to expand the extraction of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) will decimate this pristine marine environment. The death of marine life in the Coral Triangle will send shockwaves of destruction which will ripple outwards devastating Ocean health across the globe.

Michael Collins de Ocean Rebellion dice:
“The Coral Triangle holds answers to how we deal with the climate emergency and biodiversity loss. If we allow it to be destroyed to profit a greedy few we are passing up the chance to make a difference to the survival of our children.”

⬆️ Don’t be fooled by the big song and dance the gas, oil and shipping industry is making around LNG. They claim it is a wonderful transition fuel. This is a lie. Millions of lives are being ruined by LNG. Coastal communities who rely on the Ocean for sustenance are being displaced, crucial marine life is being destroyed – all because a few greedy people want to make money by exporting gas. 40% of all cargo is gas and oil. The reason for this? Because exporting gas and oil makes more money. Everyone but the gas, oil and shipping industry loses out. How shit is that? Photo Guy Reece.

LNG AND THE UN INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANISATION (IMO)
The United Nations IMO, like the insurance industry, also holds the keys to cleaning up shipping. It is the only place where the questions of how we deal with crucial shipping supply chains can be answered. And, if the answer is Liquefied Natural Gas, we are locking in fossil fuel dependence for the lifetime of LNG ships being built now—at least the next 30 years, bearing in mind LNG is 33% more polluting than coal. Currently the shipping industry has more than a thousand LNG mega ships either at sea or in production (these ships are much larger than anything you’ve ever seen and will consume even more LNG) while communities near LNG plants are suffering with increased health problems, including cancer spikes.

With so many ships dependent on LNG and so much lobbying from the gas, oil and shipping industries the UN IMO’s planned Net-Zero Framework is currently the only framework seeking to regulate shipping emissions (by taxation). If this doesn’t get adopted, or gets watered down, or gets scuppered again by the delegates from the US, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Greece who argue that LNG should remain a ‘Green fuel’ (which it clearly isn’t), then LNG will be in more demand than ever before – this means more marine biodiversity loss, more global warming, more localised health issues and even more shipping – currently 40% of all shipping cargo is fossil fuels—fuels like LNG being shipped about in LNG ships.  It’s bananas.

STOP INSURING LNG
Biodiversity is our strongest natural defense against climate collapse. Marine ecosystems, including healthy coral reefs, serve as critical buffers against extreme weather events, mitigating the impacts of the climate crisis.

Protecting the Coral Triangle as a global biodiversity hotspot is a climate imperative. We must halt fossil gas and LNG expansion to protect the living systems that sustain us.

With the help of Lloyd’s of London, and the insurance business as a whole, the gas, oil and shipping industries are increasing the use of LNG worldwide. Without insurance this blind pursuit of profit can’t happen. Wake up Lloyd’s of London, start insuring the future of our Ocean. Say NO to LNG. Stop insuring gas, oil and shipping companies and start insuring renewables, low emission shipping and initiatives to help restore the Ocean. After all the Ocean supplies every second breath we take. Isn’t that the best insurance for us all?
