Na madrugada de hoje, membros da Ocean Rebellion realizaram um protesto no porto de Falmouth, usando m\u00e1scaras de g\u00e1s para simbolizar a amea\u00e7a t\u00f3xica representada pela proposta de remodela\u00e7\u00e3o das docas de Falmouth. A a\u00e7\u00e3o ocorre poucos dias antes da vota\u00e7\u00e3o do Conselho da Cornualha sobre o controverso projeto, a 25 de setembro de 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Os manifestantes afirmam que o projeto - que envolve a demoli\u00e7\u00e3o e constru\u00e7\u00e3o de uma enorme infraestrutura de cais e a dragagem de 850 000 toneladas de fundos marinhos polu\u00eddos - representa um risco inaceit\u00e1vel para o ambiente, a sa\u00fade p\u00fablica e a economia local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As principais preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es incluem:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Sedimentos t\u00f3xicos: D\u00e9cadas de res\u00edduos de tinta anti-incrustante, incluindo tributilestanho (TBT) e metais pesados, seriam perturbados e poderiam espalhar-se pelo estu\u00e1rio do Fal, amea\u00e7ando a pesca da ostra e a vida marinha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Habitats sens\u00edveis: Leitos de margas, ervas marinhas e comunidades de esponjas. Trata-se de habitats raros, de crescimento lento, protegidos pela Diretiva Fal & Helford SAC <\/a>- enfrentam uma destrui\u00e7\u00e3o irrevers\u00edvel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Res\u00edduos perigosos: As estimativas das pr\u00f3prias docas sugerem que poder\u00e3o ser necess\u00e1rias 12 000 viagens de ve\u00edculos pesados de mercadorias para remover sedimentos contaminados, o que ter\u00e1 impactos na qualidade do ar, no tr\u00e1fego e na seguran\u00e7a em Falmouth e noutros locais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Expans\u00e3o dos navios de cruzeiro: Embora o projeto seja promovido para permitir a instala\u00e7\u00e3o de energia e\u00f3lica flutuante ao largo da costa, os activistas acreditam que o verdadeiro objetivo \u00e9 aprofundar o porto para receber navios de cruzeiro muito maiores - que provocam emiss\u00f5es significativas e um benef\u00edcio econ\u00f3mico local limitado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Os activistas apontam igualmente para um erro processual grave cometido pela Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o de Gest\u00e3o Marinha (MMO). Na sua carta de consulta inicial (18 de julho de 2025), o MMO afirmava erradamente que o projeto n\u00e3o era um empreendimento sujeito a Avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de Impacto Ambiental (AIA) e que n\u00e3o tinha sido apresentada qualquer Declara\u00e7\u00e3o Ambiental. Esta informa\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00f3 foi corrigida em 29 de agosto, depois de consultores como a C\u00e2mara Municipal de Falmouth j\u00e1 terem dado a sua opini\u00e3o - potencialmente sob uma falsa impress\u00e3o da escala do projeto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sophie Miller, da Ocean Rebellion, disse:
\"Este projeto arrisca-se a transformar o nosso porto vivo num dep\u00f3sito de lixo t\u00f3xico. Est\u00e1 a ser vendido como uma infraestrutura renov\u00e1vel, mas na realidade abre a porta a navios de cruzeiro cada vez maiores. O Conselho da Cornualha n\u00e3o deve aprovar este projeto sem um c\u00e1lculo adequado dos danos ambientais.\"<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

O protesto \u00e9 o reflexo da crescente preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o local e nacional perante a decis\u00e3o do conselho. Os activistas est\u00e3o a instar tanto o Cornwall Council como o Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o de gest\u00e3o marinha<\/a> para suspender o projeto at\u00e9 que os seus impactos ambientais e sociais sejam devidamente tratados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Ocean Rebellion exige que os governos locais e nacionais consultem os residentes antes de desperdi\u00e7arem o dinheiro dos contribuintes em projectos de infra-estruturas prejudiciais ao ambiente.
