Cr\u00e9dito da fotografia: Guy Reece.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A a\u00e7\u00e3o de hoje da Ocean Rebellion tamb\u00e9m coincide com outro evento significativo de lavagem azul da ind\u00fastria do atum, o evento anual <a href=\"https:\/\/tuna2023.infofish.org\/index.php\/conference%2020-22\">INFOFISH<\/a> que se realizar\u00e1 em Banguecoque, na Tail\u00e2ndia, de 20 a 22 de maio de 2024. O INFOFISH \u00e9 o encontro da ind\u00fastria mundial do atum, que se re\u00fane para planear a destrui\u00e7\u00e3o anual das \u00faltimas popula\u00e7\u00f5es de atum do mundo, muitas vezes com a ajuda de <a href=\"https:\/\/tuna2023.infofish.org\/index.php\/conference%2020-22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IA, drones e outras tecnologias de abate de alta tecnologia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De volta a Londres, no entanto, a cena no exterior da Blue Food Innovation Summit \u00e9 a \u00faltima de uma s\u00e9rie de interven\u00e7\u00f5es da Ocean Rebellion <a href=\"https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/pt\/tesco-dont-be-john-west-tuna-chumps-stop-selling-industrially-caught-tuna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">real\u00e7ar a utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de dFADs<\/a> pela ind\u00fastria atuneira espanhola e francesa, os principais fornecedores de atum \u00e0 Uni\u00e3o Europeia. As merpessoas representam os milh\u00f5es de toneladas de vida marinha capturada \"n\u00e3o intencionalmente\" pelos dFADs todos os anos. Cr\u00e9dito da fotografia: Guy Reece.<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Thai Union \u00e9 a maior empresa de transforma\u00e7\u00e3o de atum do mundo e facturou <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thaiunion.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-release\/1700\/thai-union-records-1q24-net-profit-of-thb-12-billion-as-demand-recovers-across-core-product-categories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lucro<\/a> de 124 milh\u00f5es de libras no primeiro trimestre de 2024, um aumento dos lucros \u00e0 custa do colapso das popula\u00e7\u00f5es de tubar\u00f5es, tartarugas, cet\u00e1ceos e juvenis de atum albacora no Oceano \u00cdndico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ent\u00e3o, o que s\u00e3o exatamente os dFADs?<\/strong><br>Grandes partes do Oceano s\u00e3o como vastos desertos, lugares onde o sol brilha implacavelmente sobre a \u00e1gua e n\u00e3o h\u00e1 sombra. Ocasionalmente, nestes vastos desertos, h\u00e1 alguns detritos a flutuar. Pode ser uma jangada de plantas mortas levadas para o mar, uma palmeira ca\u00edda ou mesmo um tubar\u00e3o-baleia morto. Estes detritos s\u00e3o arrastados pelas correntes do oceano e, por baixo deles, a vida marinha prospera - atra\u00edda pela sombra e pelos pequenos animais marinhos que a\u00ed se refugiam. E estes animais marinhos atraem predadores, primeiro pequenos peixes, depois atum, e com o atum chegam os tubar\u00f5es e os golfinhos. As baleias e tartarugas amea\u00e7adas de extin\u00e7\u00e3o tamb\u00e9m procuram a sombra durante a migra\u00e7\u00e3o. Estas pequenas ilhas s\u00e3o um o\u00e1sis num \"deserto oce\u00e2nico\". Pequenas piscinas de vida pr\u00f3spera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mas agora muitos destes o\u00e1sis flutuantes s\u00e3o armadilhas. E neste lixo colocam uma boia de sat\u00e9lite. Depois, o conjunto \u00e9 deitado ao mar para ficar \u00e0 deriva no oceano e os navios de pesca partem a motor - para aguardar o momento certo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Os navios de pesca industrial n\u00e3o esperam realmente - cada navio \u00e9, de facto, um enorme congelador de atum e cada navio est\u00e1 a implantar um n\u00famero incont\u00e1vel de ilhas dFAD de detritos no Oceano todos os anos. O que eles realmente fazem \u00e9 patrulhar constantemente o oceano, utilizando o rastreio por sat\u00e9lite para visitar os FADs que flutuaram no passado - \u00e0 espreita at\u00e9 terem recolhido uma comunidade de vida marinha por baixo deles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E quando o DCP tiver recolhido uma comunidade rica e diversificada de vida marinha, uma grande rede \u00e9 lan\u00e7ada ao oceano e cuidadosamente puxada para baixo e \u00e0 volta do DCP. A rede \u00e9 como uma bolsa com um cordel (chama-se rede de cerco com retenida) e, uma vez colocada, a parte superior da \"bolsa\" \u00e9 apertada por uma grua, de modo a que tudo o que se encontra por baixo do DCP seja apanhado e esmagado dentro de uma enorme bolsa saliente.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A \"bolsa\" \u00e9 i\u00e7ada para bordo e todas as suas capturas mortas e moribundas s\u00e3o esvaziadas para serem seleccionadas. Este atum \u00e9 vendido pelo grupo-m\u00e3e da John West, a Thai Union, a supermercados como a TESCO, a Iceland, a Morrisons, a Asda, a Lidl e a Aldi para os seus produtos de atum de marca pr\u00f3pria, que depois passam este produto cruel a clientes inocentes como n\u00f3s. Estes supermercados distinguem-se pela sua duplicidade de crit\u00e9rios, porque sabem que a Thai Union tem um historial terr\u00edvel - \u00e9 muito \u00f3bvio. A Thai Union, uma empresa sediada em Banguecoque, \u00e9 propriet\u00e1ria de uma f\u00e1brica gigante de conservas de atum nas Seychelles, que processa atum capturado \u00e0 deriva, de forma insustent\u00e1vel, atrav\u00e9s de FAD. <a href=\"https:\/\/seafood.media\/fis\/companies\/details.asp?l=e&amp;filterby=companies&amp;=&amp;country_id=&amp;page=1&amp;company_id=48097\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OPAGAC<\/a>a organiza\u00e7\u00e3o espanhola de produtores de atum congelado.
