Dit betekent dat tien jaar onderhandelen geen resultaat heeft opgeleverd. Het grootste ecosysteem ter wereld, dat meer dan twee vijfde van het aardoppervlak beslaat, is nog steeds niet beschermd.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Intussen worden de genetische rijkdommen van de volle zee ge\u00ebxploiteerd door rijke bedrijven in&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/sciadv.aar5237\">slechts een paar landen.<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;De gesubsidieerde visserij van een handvol landen plundert het kwetsbare milieu. Hoe langer we wachten op een nieuw verdrag, hoe meer schade er wordt aangericht. Zoals Helen Clark, de voormalige premier van Nieuw-Zeeland, heeft opgemerkt,&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.mongabay.com\/2022\/03\/fourth-round-of-u-n-talks-fail-to-finalize-a-treaty-to-manage-the-high-seas\/#:~:text=U.N.%20member%20states%20failed%20on,than%20a%20decade%20of%20discussion.\">\"We kunnen niet 95% van onze globale commons als gangland hebben zonder rechtsstaat\".<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;Maar we moeten wachten, omdat landen lobbyen om de milieubescherming in een nieuw verdrag af te zwakken en om visserijactiviteiten uit te sluiten van enige regelgeving.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"http:\/\/ocean-rebellion.onyx-sites.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/un-unfit-for-purpose-un-high-seas-treaty-ocean-rebellion-blinded-joao-daniel-pereira-009-8648.jpg\" alt=\"un unfit for purpose un high seas treaty - ocean-rebellion-blinded-joao-daniel-pereira-009-8648\" class=\"wp-image-521\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/un-unfit-for-purpose-un-high-seas-treaty-ocean-rebellion-blinded-joao-daniel-pereira-009-8648.jpg 800w, https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/un-unfit-for-purpose-un-high-seas-treaty-ocean-rebellion-blinded-joao-daniel-pereira-009-8648-596x894.jpg 596w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We moeten dringend actie ondernemen om de volle zee te beschermen. En we moeten hoger mikken.<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We moeten niet al onze hoop vestigen op een nieuw verdrag voor de volle zee, mocht dat er ooit komen. Het ontwerp-verdrag zit vol compromissen met gevestigde belangen en is een gemiste kans. Het zal het tij van de milieuvernietiging niet keren, het zal de industri\u00eble visserij op volle zee niet verbieden, en het zal er niet voor zorgen dat alle voordelen van de exploitatie van de oceaan eerlijk worden gedeeld met het Zuiden.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Industri\u00eble visserij op volle zee is door de staat gesponsord vandalisme en moet verboden worden. Diepzee mijnbouw&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2021\/sep\/09\/marseille-biodiversity-summit-adopts-motion-to-ban-deep-sea-mining\">zou een ravage aanrichten in langzaam groeiende ecosystemen op de zeebodem.<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;Ook dat zou verboden moeten worden. In plaats van het doel van&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/global-ocean-alliance-30by30-initiative\/about\">het beschermen van 30% van de oceaan tegen 2030,<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>we moeten de hele volle zee beschermen tegen alle destructieve economische activiteiten. In plaats van een verdrag vol gaten, moeten we&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/yalebooks.co.uk\/page\/detail\/?k=9780300259742\">een krachtige nieuwe oceaanautoriteit<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;in staat om op te treden als beschermer van 's werelds grootste ecosysteem, en de belangen te vertegenwoordigen van de vele prachtige levensvormen die er leven. In plaats van de oceaanpolitiek te laten domineren door een paar transnationale bedrijven, hebben we een levendige, democratische en inclusieve oceaanpolitiek nodig om onze planeet een toekomst te geven.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"http:\/\/ocean-rebellion.onyx-sites.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/un-unfit-for-purpose-un-high-seas-treaty-ocean-rebellion-projections-joao-daniel-pereira-010-8761.jpg\" alt=\"un unfit for purpose un high seas treaty - ocean-rebellion-projections-joao-daniel-pereira-010-8761\" class=\"wp-image-523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/un-unfit-for-purpose-un-high-seas-treaty-ocean-rebellion-projections-joao-daniel-pereira-010-8761.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/un-unfit-for-purpose-un-high-seas-treaty-ocean-rebellion-projections-joao-daniel-pereira-010-8761-596x397.jpg 596w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ALLEEN ACTIE TELT<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Nu de VN IMO en ISA organen medeplichtig zijn aan de vernietiging van de Oceaan en er geen verdrag is om de volle zee te beschermen (of de kans op een verdrag dat de volle zee zeker niet zal beschermen) is het niet tijd voor de VN om hun collectieve handen in de lucht te steken en te verklaren \"dit werkt niet\"? Het is allemaal goed en wel dat de VN verklaringen aflegt als \"brandstichting van ons enige thuis\", maar praten is goedkoop. Stop het zinloze gepraat en de geopolitieke spelletjes, vertel de waarheid, ga opnieuw zitten en begin met echte verandering. Noem de bedrijven en regeringen die de redding van de Oceaan tegenwerken, en benoem de gevolgen van wat ze proberen te bereiken. We hebben de Oceaan nodig om weer te gedijen, als de zee sterft, sterven wij.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ocean Rebellion eist:<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>De VN moet een nieuw, transparant en representatief orgaan vormen om de oceaan te besturen ten behoeve van ALLE leven. Dit nieuwe orgaan moet het herstel en de aanvulling van de oceaan als enige maatstaf voor succes hebben. Het moet bedrijfsmacht vervangen door mensenmacht. De grondbeginselen ervan zijn bedacht in een tijd waarin we dachten dat de overvloed van de oceaan onuitputtelijk was en de ecosystemen te robuust om ooit te falen. We hebben dat idee nu te ver doorgedreven. We hebben dringend een revolutie nodig in het beleid voor de volle zee, waarbij bescherming en participatie in de plaats komen van plundering door bedrijven.\"<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Roc Sandford voegt eraan toe:<\/strong><br>\"Als de zee\u00ebn sterven, sterven wij, en de zee\u00ebn sterven. Als de ineenstorting van de mariene biodiversiteit niet onmiddellijk een halt wordt toegeroepen, zal het vrijkomen van blauwe koolstof die momenteel in de oceanen is opgeslagen, de afbraak van het klimaat versnellen en talloze mensen veroordelen tot een pijnlijke dood.
