Leden van Ocean Rebellion zijn dit weekend aangekomen in het mooie Lissabon.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Lissabon ontvangt afgevaardigden van de VN en (enkele) wereldleiders, naar eigen zeggen:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

De Oceaanconferentie, medegeorganiseerd door de regeringen van Kenia en Portugal, komt op een kritiek moment, nu de wereld tracht veel van de diepgewortelde problemen van onze samenlevingen aan te pakken die door de COVID-19-pandemie aan het licht zijn gebracht en die grote structurele veranderingen en gemeenschappelijke gedeelde oplossingen vereisen die in de SDG's zijn verankerd. Om actie te mobiliseren, zal de conferentie trachten de hoognodige op wetenschap gebaseerde innovatieve oplossingen aan te dragen om een nieuw hoofdstuk van wereldwijde oceaanactie te beginnen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Grote ambities en een acroniem - SDG's - Sustainable Development Goals, maar stelt dit eigenlijk wel iets voor?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

En wat zijn wetenschappelijk onderbouwde innovaties?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

De VN heeft twee agentschappen die allebei op de een of andere manier voor de oceaan zorgen. De Internationale Maritieme Organisatie (IMO) en de Internationale Zeebodemautoriteit (ISA). En als het gaat om visserij heeft de VN SDG 14 in het leven geroepen - een vrijwillige verbintenis die alleen advies geeft.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

De IMO en de ISA zijn beide, op hun eigen manier, van plan de industrie te helpen en SDG 14 lijkt volledig te worden genegeerd nu de industri\u00eble visserij toeneemt.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Een eenvoudige oplossing voor onze overbevissing is een wereldwijd verbod op boomkorvisserij, vandaag nog. De geweldige Sylvia Earle is het daar zeker mee eens.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Onze leden hebben zich ook voorbereid op een drukke week met een workshop. Lokale kunstenaars en artiesten werden uitgenodigd om mee te doen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
