Jaar na jaar zijn doelstellingen vastgesteld die boven het door wetenschappers geadviseerde niveau liggen. In plaats daarvan volgen de ministers het advies van industri\u00eble visserijlobbyisten.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Vandaag hielden onze \"Viskoppen\" op het laatste moment een pleidooi voor de EU-ministers om een einde te maken aan de overbevissing en de nodeloze slachting. Ze stonden in plassen bloed, dode vis en ingewanden op de Karel de Grotelaan in Brussel.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"http:\/\/ocean-rebellion.onyx-sites.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-20211212-dsc06819-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"end overfishing - 20211212-dsc06819\" class=\"wp-image-365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-20211212-dsc06819-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-20211212-dsc06819-596x397.jpg 596w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>De \"vissenkoppen\" van Ocean Rebellion vertegenwoordigen het kwade gezicht van de visserij en de beleidsvorming met gevestigde belangen. Van voren zien ze er glad en zakelijk uit. Als ze zich omdraaien zie je de aard van hun maskers, 'Vishoofden' waarvan het lichaam bruut is weggerukt. Ze lekken bloed op de grond, ze pletten vis in hun handen en onder hun voeten. Zij zijn de ware aard van de industri\u00eble visserij en de politici die de wetenschap negeren en de overbevissing jaar na jaar laten doorgaan. Ze zijn alleen ge\u00efnteresseerd in het geld dat verdiend wordt met het voeren van een oorlog tegen vis, ze plegen ecocide door hebzucht. Ze nemen alles wat ze willen uit de oceaan, terwijl ze hun vuile zaakjes en nog vuiler beleid groenwassen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"675\" height=\"1200\" src=\"http:\/\/ocean-rebellion.onyx-sites.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-091220_001.jpg\" alt=\"end overfishing - 091220_001\" class=\"wp-image-363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-091220_001.jpg 675w, https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-091220_001-576x1024.jpg 576w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>De dode vis vertegenwoordigt wat uit de zee wordt gehaald boven de natuurlijke capaciteit van de oceaan om zich te herstellen, en de geschatte 400 miljoen ton zeeleven dat in de afgelopen 65 jaar incidenteel is gedood - en dood overboord is gegooid, ongewenst zeeleven zoals dolfijnen, haaien en schildpadden. Deze verspilling van leven is het resultaat van jarenlang roekeloos beleid.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Sinds de jaren vijftig heeft Europa (en de wereld) de oorlog verklaard aan de vis. We overbevissen de oceaan nu zo snel dat sommige zee\u00ebn bijna leeg zijn, zoals de Middellandse Zee, de meest overbeviste zee ter wereld, een zee die vandaag in Brussel wordt besproken. Deze industri\u00eble visserij brengt kleine vissersgemeenschappen aan de rand van hun overleving, vernietigt het zeeleven en kostbare kustgebieden, maakt beschermde zeegebieden kapot en verstoort het delicate evenwicht van het mariene ecosysteem.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"http:\/\/ocean-rebellion.onyx-sites.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-20211212-dsc06876.jpg\" alt=\"end overfishing - 20211212-dsc06876\" class=\"wp-image-367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-20211212-dsc06876.jpg 800w, https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/end-overfishing-20211212-dsc06876-596x894.jpg 596w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>De EU moet NU handelen om de industri\u00eble overbevissing te stoppen voordat er geen vis meer in de zee is.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Sophie Miller van Ocean Rebellion zegt:<\/strong><br>\"Wij eisen dat de EU de waarheid vertelt over destructieve visserijmethoden en onmiddellijk een einde maakt aan de overbevissing en de voortdurende greenwash die de lobbyisten van de industri\u00eble visserij voorschotelen.\"<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Andrew Darnton voegt toe:<\/strong><br>\"De EU moet de waarheid vertellen over de uitputting van de oceanen. Veel vispopulaties zijn bijna uitgestorven, zelfs de terminologie om ze visbestanden te noemen en ze te omschrijven als 'nog niet volledig bevist' impliceert een industri\u00eble kijk op iets dat we zouden moeten proberen te beschermen alsof ons leven ervan afhangt - want dat is zo.\"<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Suzanne Stallard zegt:<\/strong><br>\"Als een soort eenmaal is uitgestorven, is hij voorgoed verloren. We moeten geen visserijmethoden aanmoedigen die dit mogelijk maken, we moeten het zekere voor het onzekere nemen en minder vissen om te voorkomen dat er vis verdwijnt. Maar als we op industri\u00eble schaal blijven vissen en het wetenschappelijk advies negeren, zullen we gewoon eindigen met een zee zonder vis.\"<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Rob Higgs zegt:<\/strong><br>\"We hebben bijna alle wilde eiwitten op het land opgegeten, we zijn nu op weg om hetzelfde te doen met de oceanen. Dit betekent dat we ze leeg en uitgeput achterlaten van de vis die ooit vrij zwom. We moeten nu een einde maken aan overbevissing, bodemsleepnetvisserij en industri\u00eble visserij om de vispopulaties een kans op herstel te geven. Vanwege de koolstof die door mariene organismen is opgeslagen, zijn de afbraak van de mariene biodiversiteit en de klimaatnoodsituatie min of meer hetzelfde. De EU moet het mariene ecosysteem centraal stellen in haar visserijbeleid door NU een einde te maken aan de overbevissing. De EU moet alle industri\u00eble visserij in EU-wateren en alle industri\u00eble visserij door de EU-vloot in extraterritoriale wateren of de wateren van andere staten verbieden.
