Door alles op zijn pad te vangen (wat dat ook moge zijn), vernietigt het mariene habitats en komt de daar opgeslagen \"blauwe\" koolstof vrij. Ook netten breken. En als ze breken, worden ze losgesneden om over de oceaan te drijven en doden ze alles wat erin verstrikt raakt. Als ze breken, staat er een nieuwe klaar, waardoor het dodental blijft stijgen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Alsof de vernietiging van de fauna en de habitat op zich nog niet erg genoeg is, is er ook nog de pure verspilling - wetenschappers hebben geschat dat bodemtrawlers in onze Noordzee ongeveer 16 kg zeedieren doden voor elke kilo gevangen tong. Dit staat bekend als bijvangst en deze milieuslachting is ingebouwd in het bedrijfsmodel van de boomkorvisserij.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>De mensheid heeft de oorlog verklaard aan de vissen en we zijn aan het winnen. De oceaan is zo uitgeput dat kleine vissersgemeenschappen op de rand van overleven staan. Dit is koolstof die is opgeslagen in zeebodemsedimenten, mariene habitats en de daar gevangen vis. Wanneer sedimenten met blauwe koolstof worden beschadigd, kunnen zij veranderen van putten in bronnen van&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fclim.2021.710546\/full#B133\">CO2 en van methaan (CH4),<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;een veel krachtiger broeikasgas. Blauwe koolstof wordt ook opgeslagen in zeedieren, dus vis die uit zee wordt gehaald draagt ook bij tot het vrijkomen van blauwe koolstof. Dit alles draagt bij tot de verzuring van de oceaan, die op relatief korte termijn alle zeedieren met skeletten of schelpen dreigt uit te roeien. Talloze mariene soorten worden nu met uitsterven bedreigd.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>De oceaan absorbeert momenteel koolstof uit onze lucht, maar als deze koolstofniveaus stijgen, veranderen de dingen ten kwade. \"De oceaan absorbeert elk jaar een kwart tot meer dan een derde van onze CO2-uitstoot. Dus als we de CO2 in het water verhogen, vermindert dat het vermogen van dat deel van de oceaan om meer CO2 uit de atmosfeer te absorberen\", legt&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/science-environment-57202758\">Dr Sala, Explorer-in-Residence, National Geographic.<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;We hebben de oceaan nodig om te kunnen blijven ademen. Als hij stopt, stoppen wij ook met ademen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Kustwateren doen veel aan koolstofafvang en -opslag. Nog niet zo lang geleden werden de Schotse kustwateren beschermd tegen boomkorvisserij door een \"driemijlslimiet\". Deze werd in 1889 ingevoerd om schade aan de vispopulaties tegen te gaan en kleinschalige vissersboten te beschermen. De limiet werd in 1984 afgeschaft. Sindsdien worden de kustwateren in het hele VK voortdurend aangevallen door steeds grotere supertrawlers. Er is geen bescherming voor de Britse kustwateren en het zeeleven, zelfs niet in beschermde zeegebieden. En dan hebben we het niet over bebaarde grijsharige mannen in kleine sleepbootjes die in harmonie met de zee leven, maar over enorme zeefabrieken. De meeste van onze vis wordt gevangen door SLACHTHUIZEN OP ZEE. Hier is een foto van een moderne Kapitein Vogeloog boot - ja deze vangt echt vissticks! Veel van die vangst wordt door marionetten uit de industrie, zoals de Marine Stewardship Council, als \"duurzaam\" bestempeld en vervolgens in uw favoriete supermarkt verkocht. Industri\u00eble visserij is niet duurzaam. Maar er zijn andere kleinschalige vismethoden die wel duurzaam kunnen zijn. Ze betekenen dat we meer moeten betalen voor onze vis, maar ze beschermen de oceaan voor toekomstige generaties.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Super trawlers vissen in Britse wateren, zelfs in onze beschermde zeegebieden.
