De Belgische premier, Alexander De Croo, heeft ervoor gekozen om voedselindustri\u00eblen te steunen in plaats van de natuur door op te roepen tot een 'PAUZE' op de Wet natuurherstel.<\/a> Om zijn woorden kracht bij te zetten, hielden Ocean Rebels een demonstratie in het EU-parlement met maskers en spandoeken.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het lijkt erop dat De Croo aan de haak is geslagen door zijn Vlaamse cohort die advies aanneemt van de industri\u00eble landbouw en visserij. Dit gaat in tegen het advies van zijn eigen Klimaatminister, Zakia Khattabi, om de wet te steunen. In een toespraak vol industri\u00eble wortelen<\/a> De Croo onthulde dat hij alleen bereid is om technologische oplossingen voor klimaatverandering te overwegen. Dit heeft gesplitst<\/a> de federale regering in Belgi\u00eb op vertrouwde lijnen en dreigt de Natuurherstelwet te ontsporen wanneer Belgi\u00eb in januari 2024 het voorzitterschap van de EU overneemt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wat is de Natuurherstelwet?
<\/strong>In juni vorig jaar presenteerde de Europese Commissie de nieuwe Natuurherstelwet. Deze wet introduceert voor het eerst juridisch bindende doelstellingen om aangetaste ecosystemen te herstellen en het verlies aan biodiversiteit om te buigen. De nieuwe wet legt alle lidstaten de doelstelling op om tegen 2030 20% van het land en de zee\u00ebn van de EU te herstellen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gisteren was de eerste stemming over de Natuurherstelwet in het EU-parlement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EERSTE STEMMING OVER DE WET NATUURHERSTEL (NRL)<\/strong>
De stemming over de NRL was erg krap.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

De amendement tot verwerping van de NRL<\/a> werd volledig gesteund door rechts (EVP), extreem-rechts (ID\/ECR) en enkele Renew-leden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maar dankzij een interventie van de liberale Europarlementari\u00ebr Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rique Ries<\/a> het werd gered van afwijzing - 44 voor en 44 tegen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ries maakt deel uit van de Vernieuw partij<\/a> en is van de Belgische Franstalige partij Mouvement R\u00e9formateur (MR), die steeds rechtser wordt. Ries staat in de EU bekend om haar milieuvriendelijke houding tegen plastic en plasticvervuiling. Op dit moment is ze de rapporteur voor het voorstel voor een EU-verordening betreffende verpakking en verpakkingsafval. Op nationaal niveau heeft de partij van Ries besloten om tegen de NRL te zijn en Ries kreeg de opdracht om haar stem tegen het voorstel te gebruiken of uit de MR-partij gezet te worden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In plaats van de confrontatie direct aan te gaan, besloot Ries afwezig te zijn bij de stemming over de NRL. Dit maakte haar partij (de MR) erg boos - want dankzij haar beslissing werd het NRL-voorstel niet verworpen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het lijkt erop dat Belgi\u00eb de toekomst van de NRL begint vorm te geven en met de eerste stemming achter de rug en een hele lijst amendementen die overwogen moeten worden, is het tijd om de druk op te voeren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europarlementari\u00ebrs mogen de natuur niet buitenspel zetten ten gunste van business-as-usual. Het is tijd voor de EU om creatief na te denken over de bezorgdheid van haar burgers over banen en de noodzaak om af te stappen van winningsindustrie\u00ebn zoals visserij. De Natuurherstelwet (NRL) is misschien wel het beste middel om dit te doen. Het biedt de kans om gemeenschappen bovenaan de agenda te zetten door ze te koppelen aan een zinvolle wet (NRL). Wat als visserijgemeenschappen aan de kust proefprojecten worden voor basisinkomen<\/a>? En dit basisinkomen is de kans voor de lokale bevolking om te zorgen voor hun lokale omgeving, voor de plaats waar ze wonen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ocean Rebellion eist dat het EU-parlement en de Raad de NATURE RESTORATION LAW volledig steunen, inclusief het voorstel om de lidstaten wettelijk verantwoordelijk te maken voor natuurherstel en EU-burgers het recht te geven de lidstaten aan te klagen als zij de wet niet naleven. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ocean Rebellion eist ook dat het EU-parlement de visserij als belangrijke oorzaak van de achteruitgang van de oceanen in de NRL opneemt en deze opneming onderstreept door een verbod op de visserij met bodemtrawls in alle EU-wateren, en dat het zich ertoe verbindt de visserij met 80% te verminderen door een einde te maken aan de industri\u00eble visserij en de kustgemeenschappen mondiger te maken door arbeidsintensieve traditionele visserij met een lage impact te bevorderen en Ocean Care te stimuleren. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

De EU-lidstaten moeten moed tonen om de rijke lobbyisten het hoofd te bieden, duurzame banen te scheppen en de stervende oceaan te herstellen. <\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
