Het is nog beter om buiten de IMO met acht blinde ogen toe te zien hoe de afgevaardigden aankomen om de uitstoot van broeikasgassen te bespreken tijdens de 14e zitting van de \"Intersessional Working Group on the Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships\".<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ik vraag me af of de GHG-groep enige zeewaardige beslissingen heeft genomen over hoe de uitstoot van de scheepvaart kan worden verminderd? Waarschijnlijk niet, want alles wat het resultaat van de scheepvaartindustrie be\u00efnvloedt, ligt niet op tafel - ondanks de enorme winststijging die de industrie heeft gekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Misschien helpt onze vriendelijke herinnering van de Red Rebels hen na te denken over hun plicht tegenover het milieu. We zullen de IMO later dit jaar weer bezoeken om ze er aan te herinneren. In de tussentijd is hier een herinnering aan hoe wij denken over de IMO.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n    <h2 id=\"callout-block_40047122d8e29bb661a51423bd0846f9\" class=\"callout-heading callout-heading-advanced\">\n\n    \n        <span class=\"font--function-stencil size--fixed\">De IMO<\/span>\n    \n    \n        <span class=\"font--function-stencil size--fixed\">is ongeschikt voor<\/span>\n    \n    \n        <span class=\"font--function-stencil size--fixed\">doel<\/span>\n    \n    \n    <\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n<p>De IMO is duidelijk ongeschikt voor haar taak. Zij handelt alleen namens de scheepvaartindustrie en houdt zelden rekening met het milieu. Zij moet de emissies van de scheepvaart nu halveren. Voeg daarbij de voortdurende steun van de IMO aan de fossiele brandstofindustrie, door geen belasting te heffen op scheepsbrandstof en de verbranding op zee van het vuile bijproduct HFO toe, plus het gebrek aan regelgeving voor gevaarlijke petrochemische scheepvaart, en de lijst van wandaden en verkeerde richtingen van de IMO begint wel erg lang te worden. Is het gezien deze steeds langer wordende lijst niet tijd dat de milieutaak van de IMO door een ander, beter VN-agentschap wordt overgenomen?  Het leven is te belangrijk om te worden verspild door een onbekwame bureaucratie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ocean Rebellion eist:<\/strong><br><strong>De VN moet een nieuw, transparant en representatief orgaan vormen om de oceaan te besturen ten behoeve van ALLE leven. Dit nieuwe orgaan moet het herstel en de aanvulling van de oceaan als enige maatstaf voor succes hebben. Het moet bedrijfsmacht vervangen door mensenmacht.
