Ha habido 10 o m\u00e1s cruceros de South Devon costas en los \u00faltimos meses.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Colin Moore, uno de los activistas, declar\u00f3: \"La mayor\u00eda de la gente tiene una visi\u00f3n bastante rom\u00e1ntica de los cruceros, quiz\u00e1 basada en pel\u00edculas como el Titanic. Pero los cruceros modernos son mucho m\u00e1s grandes y la contaminaci\u00f3n que provocan puede tener graves consecuencias para la salud. Ya es bastante malo que la huella de carbono de una persona aumente al menos tres veces durante un crucero, pero lo que es menos conocido es que los gases que emiten son peores que los gases de escape de toda una ciudad\".<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Los cruceros se estacionan en la bah\u00eda debido a las restricciones cov\u00edcolas, donde encuentran un anclaje seguro frente a los vientos dominantes del oeste. Aunque s\u00f3lo hay una tripulaci\u00f3n m\u00ednima a bordo, los barcos suelen llevar todas las luces encendidas y se desplazan con frecuencia de un puerto a otro para ventilar sus vertidos y mantener los motores en buen estado de funcionamiento. Normalmente vierten las aguas residuales directamente al oc\u00e9ano, lo que es legal fuera de las aguas territoriales, a pesar de que este tipo de vertido puede contribuir a grandes floraciones t\u00f3xicas de algas. A veces tambi\u00e9n son sorprendidos verti\u00e9ndolas dentro del l\u00edmite de las 12 millas, pero entonces pagan peque\u00f1as multas. Tambi\u00e9n suelen arrojar basura y combustible directamente al mar y arrastrar sus anclas con vientos fuertes, lo que puede causar graves da\u00f1os al lecho marino y da\u00f1ar el h\u00e1bitat. El Marella Explorer 2 -que forma parte de la flota de TUI- perdi\u00f3 el ancla en Torbay durante las condiciones meteorol\u00f3gicas extremas de enero, y desde entonces le ha ocurrido a otros dos barcos m\u00e1s. Actualmente se est\u00e1 investigando el caso.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Se dice que la contaminaci\u00f3n por part\u00edculas del petr\u00f3leo pesado utilizado como combustible por un solo crucero equivale a la de un mill\u00f3n de coches. Normalmente se elimina en mar abierto, pero cuando hay hasta diez de estos barcos en una poblaci\u00f3n costera como Torbay y sus alrededores, es de esperar que la calidad del aire se deteriore, sobre todo con vientos suaves de tierra. Uno de los mayores problemas son los niveles de \u00f3xido de nitr\u00f3geno, que se han relacionado con mayores \u00edndices de c\u00e1ncer y enfermedades respiratorias.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Existen algunas normativas al respecto, por lo que la industria de cruceros utiliza \"depuradores\" o incineradoras para que su combustible cumpla las normas, pero luego se ha descubierto que vierten los residuos en las profundidades del oc\u00e9ano, contribuyendo a problemas m\u00e1s amplios, como la acidificaci\u00f3n de los oc\u00e9anos. Recientemente, Ocean Rebellion ha exigido que la industria naviera cambie al combustible destilado m\u00e1s limpio.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Chris Dance, activista y fot\u00f3grafo, declar\u00f3: \"Si este pa\u00eds y el resto del mundo se toman en serio el objetivo de mantener la huella de CO2 dentro de unos l\u00edmites seguros, lo mejor ser\u00eda desguazar estos cruceros.
