Al amanecer de hoy, miembros de Ocean Rebellion han organizado una protesta en el puerto de Falmouth, llevando m\u00e1scaras de gas para simbolizar la amenaza t\u00f3xica que supone la propuesta de remodelaci\u00f3n de los muelles de Falmouth. La acci\u00f3n se produce pocos d\u00edas antes de que el Consejo de Cornualles vote sobre el controvertido proyecto el 25 de septiembre de 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los manifestantes afirman que el proyecto -que implica la demolici\u00f3n y construcci\u00f3n de una nueva y enorme infraestructura de muelles y el dragado de 850.000 toneladas de fondos marinos contaminados- supone un riesgo inaceptable para el medio ambiente, la salud p\u00fablica y la econom\u00eda local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Las principales preocupaciones son:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Sedimentos t\u00f3xicos: D\u00e9cadas de residuos de pintura antiincrustante, incluidos tributilesta\u00f1o (TBT) y metales pesados, se ver\u00edan alterados y podr\u00edan extenderse por todo el estuario del Fal, amenazando la pesca de ostras y la vida marina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- H\u00e1bitats sensibles: Lechos de algas, praderas marinas y comunidades de esponjas. Son h\u00e1bitats raros, de crecimiento lento, protegidos por la Fal & Helford SAC <\/a>- se enfrentan a una destrucci\u00f3n irreversible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Residuos peligrosos: Los propios c\u00e1lculos de los muelles sugieren que podr\u00edan ser necesarios 12.000 desplazamientos de camiones para retirar los sedimentos contaminados, lo que repercutir\u00eda en la calidad del aire, el tr\u00e1fico y la seguridad en Falmouth y sus alrededores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Expansi\u00f3n de los cruceros: Aunque el proyecto se promociona como una soluci\u00f3n para la energ\u00eda e\u00f3lica marina flotante, los activistas creen que el verdadero objetivo es profundizar el puerto para acoger cruceros mucho m\u00e1s grandes, que generan importantes emisiones y escasos beneficios econ\u00f3micos locales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los activistas tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1alan un grave error de procedimiento de la Organizaci\u00f3n de Gesti\u00f3n Marina (MMO). En su carta de consulta original (18 de julio de 2025), la MMO afirmaba err\u00f3neamente que el proyecto no era un desarrollo de Evaluaci\u00f3n de Impacto Ambiental (EIA) y que no se hab\u00eda presentado ninguna Declaraci\u00f3n Ambiental. Esta afirmaci\u00f3n no se corrigi\u00f3 hasta el 29 de agosto, despu\u00e9s de que consultados como el Ayuntamiento de Falmouth ya hubieran dado su opini\u00f3n, posiblemente bajo una falsa impresi\u00f3n de la envergadura del proyecto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Este proyecto corre el riesgo de convertir nuestro puerto vivo en un vertedero t\u00f3xico. Se vende como una infraestructura renovable, pero en realidad abre la puerta a cruceros cada vez mayores. El Consejo de Cornualles no debe aprobarlo sin un c\u00e1lculo adecuado de los da\u00f1os medioambientales\".<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

La protesta pone de manifiesto la creciente preocupaci\u00f3n local y nacional ante la decisi\u00f3n del Consejo. Los activistas instan tanto al Consejo de Cornualles como a la Organizaci\u00f3n de Gesti\u00f3n Marina<\/a> paralizar el proyecto hasta que se aborden adecuadamente sus repercusiones medioambientales y sociales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ocean Rebellion exige a los gobiernos locales y nacionales que consulten a los residentes antes de malgastar el dinero de los contribuyentes en proyectos de infraestructuras perjudiciales para el medio ambiente.
