Pero no se ha creado para batir r\u00e9cords mundiales. 150 metros es la anchura de las fauces de una red de arrastre de fondo, que en realidad puede ser a\u00fan m\u00e1s ancha. Tan ancha que diez jumbos pueden volar en su interior. Esto se traduce en innumerables tortugas marinas, delfines y peces de pesca con ca\u00f1a asfixiados por la codicia de la pesca industrial de la UE (bajo la protecci\u00f3n de los dirigentes de la UE) y luego simplemente arrojados por la borda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La pesca de arrastre de fondo es uno de los m\u00e9todos de pesca m\u00e1s destructivos, que provoca la p\u00e9rdida irreversible de ecosistemas y la liberaci\u00f3n de enormes cantidades de carbono almacenado en el fondo marino. Su prohibici\u00f3n evitar\u00eda 93% de todas las emisiones de CO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-020-71021-x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">descartes de peces y capturas accesorias<\/a> (vida marina que se captura accidentalmente y se arroja muerta o moribunda al mar o vida marina no objetivo que tambi\u00e9n se arroja muerta o moribunda por la borda). Los gobiernos europeos gastan  <a href=\"https:\/\/news.nationalgeographic.org\/study-bottom-trawling-in-european-waters-costs-society-up-to-eur11-billion-annually\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1.300 millones de euros al a\u00f1o para subvencionar este desastre<\/a>. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 los contribuyentes de la UE financian una industria que destruye sus aguas costeras? El oc\u00e9ano est\u00e1 tan esquilmado que las peque\u00f1as comunidades pesqueras est\u00e1n al borde de la supervivencia y las zonas donde antes hab\u00eda abundancia ahora est\u00e1n vac\u00edas. M\u00e1s de 100 millones de personas dependen de la pesca costera de subsistencia y de la pesca artesanal a peque\u00f1a escala para su sustento diario, a menudo en las mismas aguas en las que faenan los arrastreros de la UE. Acabar con la pesca industrial es una obviedad. La UE, con Francia a la cabeza, puede empezar por proteger realmente las zonas marinas protegidas y prohibir la pesca de arrastre de fondo en toda su flota pesquera.
