The Soil Association’s organic labelling is very misleading indeed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like the RSPCA the Soil Association thinks it can lie to consumers by supporting an industry that isn’t organic<\/a>, pollutes the environment and is routinely cruel to animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contrary to what consumers might believe, the Soil Association\u2019s Organic certification permits the use [and therefore discharge] of chemical treatments, including pesticides that are known to be toxic to marine life. Soil Association certified salmon farms [use] the chemical pesticide Deltamethrin, which is known to persist in marine sediment for prolonged periods and be highly toxic to lobsters as far as 39km\u00b2 from the farm [source WildFish<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also the ‘Soil Association Organic’ label is meant to assure consumers that animals don’t suffer before they are killed for food. But there’s reports of ‘Soil Association Organic’ label salmon farms in Scotland which have extremely high mortality rates, some as high as 74%<\/a>. That\u2019s 74% of RSPCA assured farmed salmon dying in cruel conditions in a month (Wildfish, 2023)<\/a>. Devoured slowly by sea lice or killed agonisingly by diseases caused by overcrowding.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isn’t this the very definition of animal cruelty?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
