Im Morgengrauen protestierten heute Mitglieder von Ocean Rebellion im Hafen von Falmouth mit Gasmasken, um die giftige Bedrohung durch die geplante Sanierung der Falmouth Docks zu symbolisieren. Die Aktion findet nur wenige Tage vor der Abstimmung des Cornwall Council \u00fcber das umstrittene Projekt am 25. September 2025 statt.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nach Ansicht der Demonstranten stellt das Projekt, das den Abriss und den Bau einer riesigen neuen Kaianlage sowie die Ausbaggerung von 850 000 Tonnen verschmutztem Meeresboden vorsieht, ein inakzeptables Risiko f\u00fcr die Umwelt, die \u00f6ffentliche Gesundheit und die lokale Wirtschaft dar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zu den wichtigsten Anliegen geh\u00f6ren:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Giftige Sedimente: Jahrzehntelange R\u00fcckst\u00e4nde von Antifouling-Farben, darunter Tributylzinn (TBT) und Schwermetalle, w\u00fcrden aufgewirbelt und k\u00f6nnten sich im gesamten M\u00fcndungsgebiet von Fal ausbreiten, was die Austernfischerei und die Meeresfauna bedrohen w\u00fcrde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Empfindliche Lebensr\u00e4ume: Mergelb\u00e4nke, Seegras- und Schwammgemeinschaften. Dies sind seltene, langsam wachsende Lebensr\u00e4ume, die durch das Fal & Helford SAC <\/a>- unwiderruflich zerst\u00f6rt werden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Gef\u00e4hrliche Abf\u00e4lle: Nach eigenen Sch\u00e4tzungen der Docks k\u00f6nnten 12.000 Lkw-Fahrten erforderlich sein, um kontaminiertes Sediment zu entfernen, was Auswirkungen auf die Luftqualit\u00e4t, den Verkehr und die Sicherheit in Falmouth und dar\u00fcber hinaus haben k\u00f6nnte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Ausbau von Kreuzfahrtschiffen: W\u00e4hrend das Projekt als M\u00f6glichkeit f\u00fcr schwimmende Offshore-Windkraftanlagen angepriesen wird, glauben Aktivisten, dass die eigentliche Triebfeder die Vertiefung des Hafens f\u00fcr viel gr\u00f6\u00dfere Kreuzfahrtschiffe ist - die erhebliche Emissionen und einen begrenzten lokalen wirtschaftlichen Nutzen mit sich bringen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Aktivisten weisen auch auf einen schwerwiegenden Verfahrensfehler der Marine Management Organisation (MMO) hin. In ihrem urspr\u00fcnglichen Konsultationsschreiben (18. Juli 2025) erkl\u00e4rte die MMO f\u00e4lschlicherweise, dass es sich bei dem Projekt nicht um ein Projekt mit Umweltvertr\u00e4glichkeitspr\u00fcfung (UVP) handele und dass keine Umwelterkl\u00e4rung vorgelegt worden sei. Dies wurde erst am 29. August korrigiert, nachdem sich Konsultationsteilnehmer wie der Stadtrat von Falmouth bereits ge\u00e4u\u00dfert hatten - m\u00f6glicherweise unter einem falschen Eindruck vom Umfang des Projekts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Dieses Projekt birgt die Gefahr, dass unser lebendiger Hafen zu einer Giftm\u00fcllhalde wird. Es wird als erneuerbare Infrastruktur verkauft, aber in Wirklichkeit \u00f6ffnet es die T\u00fcr f\u00fcr immer gr\u00f6\u00dfere Kreuzfahrtschiffe. Der Rat von Cornwall darf dieses Projekt nicht durchwinken, ohne die Umweltsch\u00e4den richtig abzusch\u00e4tzen.\"<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Der Protest unterstreicht die wachsende lokale und nationale Besorgnis vor der Entscheidung des Rates. Die Aktivisten fordern sowohl den Rat von Cornwall als auch die Meeresmanagement-Organisation<\/a> das Projekt so lange zu stoppen, bis seine \u00f6kologischen und sozialen Auswirkungen angemessen ber\u00fccksichtigt sind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ocean Rebellion fordert, dass lokale und nationale Regierungen die Anwohner konsultieren, bevor sie Steuergelder f\u00fcr umweltsch\u00e4dliche Infrastrukturprojekte verschwenden.
