Ocean Rebellion hat heute erneut die Internationale Seeschifffahrtsorganisation (IMO) besucht.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Wenn wir die IMO nur in Ruhe lassen k\u00f6nnten, w\u00fcrden wir das tun, wenn sie die Umweltpolitik ernst nehmen w\u00fcrde. Aber das tun sie nicht.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

An einem kalten Novembermorgen spuckten drei Fossil Fool Oil-Vertreter, die die Industrielobby der IMO repr\u00e4sentieren, am ersten Tag der j\u00fcngsten Sitzung des Meeresumweltschutzausschusses (MEPC) \u00d6l und verteilten schmutziges Geld an die ankommenden Delegierten.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Zu den Fossil Fools gesellten sich ihre Kumpels Kitack Lim (der IMO-Generalsekret\u00e4r) und Kapit\u00e4n Ian Finley (der Vertreter der Cook-Inseln), \u00fcber den Sie hier lesen k\u00f6nnen hier.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Sowohl Kitack als auch Ian schienen sich mit dem \u00f6ligen Geld, das die Fossil Fools verteilen, wohlzuf\u00fchlen - sie sind wohl daran gew\u00f6hnt, denn sie stecken es seit Jahren ein. Vielleicht hat Kapit\u00e4n Ian Finley deshalb Pl\u00e4ne unterst\u00fctzt, 85% der Schifffahrt von den Emissionsgrenzwerten zu befreien? Wir wissen es nicht, aber wir w\u00fcrden gerne von ihm h\u00f6ren.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Danach r\u00fcckten die W\u00e4scher an, um die Situation mit Wischmops und Eimern zu entsch\u00e4rfen und daf\u00fcr zu sorgen, dass die 77. MEPC-Tagung ungest\u00f6rt stattfinden konnte.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Dies ist nicht der erste Besuch von Ocean Rebellion auf der IMO;<\/a><\/strong> Vor einem Jahr haben wir vor der IMO ein Boot in Brand gesetzt, um auf die v\u00f6llige Missachtung des Pariser Abkommens hinzuweisen. Bei dieser Gelegenheit widersetzte sich die IMO den Forderungen des Umweltsektors, verbindliche Ziele f\u00fcr die Emissionsreduzierung vor 2030 festzulegen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In der UN-Klimasynthese wurde festgestellt, dass eine Senkung um 45 % erforderlich ist. Die IMO hat sich geweigert, sich zu solchen K\u00fcrzungen zu verpflichten, w\u00e4hrend die Schifffahrtsindustrie auf Wachstumskurs ist.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Die IMO ist das einzige internationale Gremium, das f\u00fcr den Zustand der Ozeane zust\u00e4ndig ist: Es gibt niemanden sonst, an den man sich wenden kann. Ihre Mitglieder werden von den Schifffahrts- und Fischereinationen dominiert. Sie wird direkt und indirekt von den Interessen der gro\u00dfen \u00d6lkonzerne geleitet. Sie ist die UN-Organisation mit den meisten Unternehmensvertretern, etwa einem Drittel. Die IMO ist nicht zweckm\u00e4\u00dfig, sie kann die Ozeane nicht sch\u00fctzen und erhalten, vor allem nicht in einer Zeit, in der wir eine Verwaltung brauchen, die weit \u00fcber den Schutz hinausgeht.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Au\u00dferdem ist die Schifffahrt von Natur aus mit den Interessen der \u00d6lindustrie verbunden. Die Schifffahrt ist die einzige M\u00f6glichkeit f\u00fcr die \u00d6lindustrie, ihr Abfallprodukt zu entsorgen. Diese werden in den Motoren der gro\u00dfen Schiffe als Schwer\u00f6l (HFO) verbrannt, der schmutzigsten Form von Kraftstoff. W\u00fcrden die Schiffe es nicht verbrennen, m\u00fcsste f\u00fcr seine Entsorgung bezahlt werden. Stattdessen sind die Schiffe f\u00fcr den Betrieb mit Schwer\u00f6l ausgelegt und werden daf\u00fcr subventioniert. Von allen Verkehrstr\u00e4gern ist die Schifffahrt die einzige, die keine Kraftstoffsteuer zahlt. 80% der Schiffe verbrennen HFO und 40% der bef\u00f6rderten G\u00fcter sind Treibstoff. Billiges \u00d6l erm\u00f6glicht eine billige Schifffahrt, die den billigen Verbrauch aufrechterh\u00e4lt. 95% aller Produkte werden per Schiff ins Vereinigte K\u00f6nigreich transportiert.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n

sagte Sophie Miller von Ocean Rebellion:<\/strong>
\"Unsere Forderung ist einfach: Weg mit den Schiffen von den fossilen Brennstoffen, um den Klimazusammenbruch zu stoppen, wiederholte fahrl\u00e4ssige \u00d6lverschmutzungen durch fossile Brennstoffe, auch in der Arktis, zu verhindern und die Lebensgrundlagen der Menschen und unsere wertvolle Meeresumwelt zu sch\u00fctzen.\"<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\"Die IMO hat die Chance, die Dinge zu \u00e4ndern. Sie kann nicht nur f\u00fcr das Leben in den Meeren, sondern auch f\u00fcr unser \u00dcberleben als Spezies auf diesem Planeten einen echten Unterschied machen. Aber sie muss jetzt aktiv werden. Sie muss sich von der fossilen Brennstoffindustrie l\u00f6sen und sich f\u00fcr die Umwelt einsetzen.\"<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

sagte Andrew Darnton von Ocean Rebellion:<\/strong>
\"Ocean Rebellion ist gerade von der COP zur\u00fcckgekehrt, wo unsere Botschaft lautete: Wir k\u00f6nnen das Klima nicht retten, ohne die Ozeane zu retten. Wir kommen zur IMO, um ihr zu sagen, dass sie anfangen muss, Kohlenstoff zu reduzieren, um eine Chance zu haben, einen unkontrollierten Klimawandel zu verhindern. Als die IMO das letzte Mal \u00fcber dieses Thema diskutierte, beschloss sie, nichts zu tun. Die Schifffahrt muss dringend Ma\u00dfnahmen ergreifen, wenn wir eine Chance haben wollen, unter 1,5 Grad zu bleiben.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\"Die Arbeit mit Reedereien ist sehr lukrativ. Der Trick ist, es aus den Nachrichten herauszuhalten, dann wei\u00df niemand, was man tut. Wir arbeiten mit vielen Partnern zusammen, um die Eigentumsverh\u00e4ltnisse undurchsichtig zu machen, damit niemand wei\u00df, wem was geh\u00f6rt. Wir haben Partnerschaftsprogramme f\u00fcr Billigflaggen mit Liberia, Malta, Barbados, den Bahamas und nat\u00fcrlich mit unserem gr\u00f6\u00dften Partner Panama eingerichtet. Wir haben uns eine Vertretung bei der Internationalen Seeschifffahrts-Organisation besorgt, und bisher ist das eine angenehme Nummer, aus den Augen und aus dem Sinn. Nat\u00fcrlich hat uns die Blockade des Suezkanals im April ein wenig zu schaffen gemacht, aber unsere Schadensbegrenzung hat perfekt funktioniert. Die industriellen 'Just-in-Time'-Lieferketten haben uns so viel wunderbare Greenwash-Arbeit beschert, dass es immer eine Freude ist, dabei zu helfen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
