Niet alleen blokkeren ze het licht (Amsterdam is vlak en de hoogte van gebouwen is gereguleerd), maar de passagiers, zoals deze <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uib.no\/en\/news\/36477\/cruise-tourists-spend-less\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Noors onderzoek<\/a> shows, dragen niet veel (of niets) bij aan de lokale economie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het enige wat cruiseschepen wel bijdragen aan Amsterdam is een enorme hoeveelheid vervuiling. Studies zoals deze van <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportenvironment.org\/articles\/luxury-cruise-giant-emits-10-times-more-air-pollution-sox-all-europes-cars-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NGO T&amp;E<\/a> hebben aangetoond dat cruiseschepen 10 keer meer zwaveloxide (SOX) hebben uitgestoten rond de Europese kusten dan 260 miljoen auto's in 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meer <a href=\"https:\/\/safety4sea.com\/te-as-cruise-ships-grow-so-do-environmental-challenges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent onderzoek<\/a> is nog beangstigender. Cruiseschepen worden steeds groter en het probleem ook. De cruise-industrie probeert dit probleem te verdoezelen door langzaam over te schakelen op een nieuwe brandstof, vloeibaar aardgas (LNG). Maar bij deze brandstof komt methaan vrij in de atmosfeer, een broeikasgas dat 80 keer krachtiger is dan CO2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waarom moeten de inwoners van Amsterdam voortdurend worden blootgesteld aan de uitstoot van koolmonoxide, zwaveldioxide en vluchtige organische stoffen (VOC's) door cruiseschepen? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.environmentalhealthproject.org\/post\/liquefied-natural-gas-lng-health-and-climate-impacts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Studies hebben aangetoond<\/a> dat deze verontreinigende stoffen in verband worden gebracht met een reeks gevolgen voor de gezondheid, waaronder hoofdpijn, hoesten, duizeligheid en andere aandoeningen aan de luchtwegen. Ze kunnen ook huid, ogen, neus en longen irriteren.
