Lo cual es una descripci\u00f3n exacta de qui\u00e9n controla la OMI y qui\u00e9n se beneficia de su inacci\u00f3n.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al no comprometerse a reducir a la mitad las emisiones del transporte mar\u00edtimo para 2030, la OMI incumple el propio compromiso de la ONU con la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatechangenews.com\/2023\/07\/06\/imo-mepc-shipping-talks-climate-2030-2040-targets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Acuerdo de Par\u00eds sobre el clima<\/a> - \u00bfc\u00f3mo puede hacer esto un organismo de la ONU? Pero dada la <a href=\"https:\/\/lloydslist.maritimeintelligence.informa.com\/LL1145726\/China-leads-opposition-to-GHG-levy-at-IMO-as-member-states-discuss-economic-measures\">C<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/lloydslist.maritimeintelligence.informa.com\/LL1145726\/China-leads-opposition-to-GHG-levy-at-IMO-as-member-states-discuss-economic-measures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ntentos de los delegados chinos<\/a> para frustrar cualquier plan de reducir a\u00fan m\u00e1s las emisiones no nos sorprende.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Y todo esto complacer\u00e1 al jefe de Shell, Wael Sawan, ya que significa que su empresa, y todos los dem\u00e1s gigantes de los combustibles f\u00f3siles, pueden seguir deshaci\u00e9ndose de su sucio subproducto, el fuel\u00f3leo pesado (HFO), quem\u00e1ndolo en el mar. El HFO es tan t\u00f3xico que su uso est\u00e1 prohibido en tierra, pero se sigue utilizando como combustible para los barcos, su holl\u00edn sigue ennegreciendo el hielo \u00e1rtico y sigue causando muertes prematuras en todo el mundo (el HFO est\u00e1 relacionado con 400.000 muertes prematuras al a\u00f1o en todo el mundo, con un coste sanitario de $50 mil millones). \u00bfQuiz\u00e1s las empresas de combustibles f\u00f3siles deber\u00edan pagar esta factura sanitaria, o quiz\u00e1s la factura la pueda pagar la industria naviera? Sin un impuesto sobre el carbono para el combustible mar\u00edtimo, nuestro \u00fanico recurso econ\u00f3mico es el coste sanitario; no podemos confiar en su sentido del deber moral, ambas industrias est\u00e1n moralmente en quiebra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/SoldOutToFossilFuels2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/SoldOutToFossilFuels2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/SoldOutToFossilFuels2-596x397.jpg 596w, https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/SoldOutToFossilFuels2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/oceanrebellion.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/SoldOutToFossilFuels2-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>POR QU\u00c9 LOS VOTOS DE LOS ESTADOS MIEMBROS DE LA OMI IMPORTAN TANTO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HFO y la OMI<\/strong><br>Al permitir que los buques quemen HFO, la OMI est\u00e1 aumentando significativamente la contribuci\u00f3n del transporte mar\u00edtimo a las emisiones de CO2 en lugar de reducirlas en consonancia con el Acuerdo de Par\u00eds. Adem\u00e1s, el carbono negro del HFO quemado cae en forma de holl\u00edn y hace que los casquetes polares absorban m\u00e1s calor y se derritan, acelerando a\u00fan m\u00e1s los aterradores bucles de retroalimentaci\u00f3n del calentamiento planetario que ya est\u00e1n matando a millones de personas y amenazan todas nuestras vidas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El carbono negro es especialmente peligroso cuando lo emiten los barcos en el \u00c1rtico. La OMI lleva m\u00e1s de una d\u00e9cada debatiendo normas sobre el carbono negro y lo mejor que tiene para mostrar es un compromiso de cambio voluntario a combustibles m\u00e1s limpios. El sector mar\u00edtimo ha demostrado ser incapaz de autorregularse y est\u00e1 poniendo en peligro innumerables vidas.  Ha llegado el momento de establecer una norma vinculante para hacer frente a esta potente fuente de calentamiento del clima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La OMI debe poner fin a esta estupidez ahora: el cambio voluntario nunca ha funcionado, \u00bfcu\u00e1ndo ha habido alguna industria que se haya comprometido voluntariamente con el medio ambiente? Si es ilegal quemar un tipo de combustible en tierra, tambi\u00e9n deber\u00eda serlo quemarlo en el mar. Al fin y al cabo, gran parte de \u00e9l acaba en el mismo lugar: nuestros pulmones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"subscribe-block_784efe698f06e52e4c00dc7315959cdc\" class=\"\">\n    \n    <hr class=\"wp-block-separator no-margin\">\n    \n    <p class=\"no-margin\">\n        <strong>El destino del Oc\u00e9ano depende de todos nosotros.<br \/>\r\nLe informaremos de lo que estamos haciendo para ayudar.<\/strong>\n    <\/p>\n\n    <form id=\"forminator-module-598\" class=\"forminator-custom-form forminator-custom-form-598\" method=\"post\" data-forminator-render=\"0\" data-uid=\"69f21d5aab44e\" action=\"\"><div role=\"alert\" aria-live=\"polite\" class=\"forminator-response-message forminator-error\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div><input type=\"hidden\" name=\"trp-form-language\" value=\"es\"\/><\/form>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lavadores sucios<\/strong><br>La OMI no s\u00f3lo est\u00e1 maquillando de verde el uso de combustibles f\u00f3siles, sino que tambi\u00e9n propone \"depuradores\" para hacer lo mismo con los buques. Estos depuradores impiden que las peores emisiones de HFO lleguen a la atm\u00f3sfera: eso es bueno, \u00bfno? Bueno, no si el depurador lo convierte en una soluci\u00f3n \u00e1cida y lo bombea al oc\u00e9ano. De este modo, la OMI sigue contaminando el aire y acidificando directamente el mar, lo que sin duda constituye la definici\u00f3n de \"lavado verde\". La \"soluci\u00f3n\" de la OMI es una soluci\u00f3n t\u00f3xica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gas natural licuado (GNL): los hechos<br><\/strong>El GNL es un combustible f\u00f3sil que, cuando se extrae, se transporta y se quema como combustible marino, deja escapar metano a la atm\u00f3sfera, un gas peligroso para el calentamiento global que est\u00e1 sobre <a href=\"https:\/\/theicct.org\/publication\/the-climate-implications-of-using-lng-as-a-marine-fuel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">80 veces m\u00e1s calentamiento del clima<\/a> a corto plazo que el di\u00f3xido de carbono. Actualmente, el GNL es la alternativa preferida de la industria naviera al HFO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Grupo Intergubernamental de Expertos sobre el Cambio Clim\u00e1tico (IPCC) de la ONU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/report\/ar6\/wg1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">identificado<\/a> la r\u00e1pida reducci\u00f3n de las emisiones de metano como una de las principales prioridades para limitar el calentamiento global a un nivel lo m\u00e1s cercano posible a 1,5\u00b0C. El IPCC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/report\/ar6\/wg3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00faltimo informe<\/a> centrarse en la mitigaci\u00f3n del clima deja claro que el gas f\u00f3sil en forma de GNL no es una soluci\u00f3n para la descarbonizaci\u00f3n del transporte mar\u00edtimo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En contra de lo que exige la ciencia del clima, las empresas navieras y portuarias han <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cma-cgm.com\/news\/3571\/cma-cgm-to-dedicate-six-new-lng-powered-vessels-to-service-u-s-customers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">invirtiendo fuertemente<\/a> en GNL f\u00f3sil, alegando que el combustible reducir\u00e1 su impacto medioambiental y la contaminaci\u00f3n clim\u00e1tica. Actualmente hay m\u00e1s de 785 nuevos cargueros encargados en todo el mundo, de los cuales m\u00e1s de 400 se est\u00e1n construyendo para funcionar con GNL f\u00f3sil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quemar m\u00e1s GNL f\u00f3sil a bordo de los buques es un desastre en ciernes para nuestro planeta. S\u00f3lo aumentar\u00eda las emisiones de metano de los buques, que ya <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imo.org\/en\/OurWork\/Environment\/Pages\/Fourth-IMO-Greenhouse-Gas-Study-2020.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rosa<\/a> por 150% entre 2012 y 2018, seg\u00fan la Organizaci\u00f3n Mar\u00edtima Internacional (OMI) de la ONU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>La OMI no es apta para el prop\u00f3sito<\/strong><br>La OMI es claramente inadecuada para su prop\u00f3sito. S\u00f3lo act\u00faa en nombre de la industria naviera y rara vez tiene en cuenta el medio ambiente. Debe reducir a la mitad las emisiones del transporte mar\u00edtimo ahora, ya es demasiado tarde para que algunas personas sobrevivan a las espeluznantes pol\u00edticas de la OMI, pero todav\u00eda no para todos. Si a esto a\u00f1adimos el continuo apoyo de la OMI a la industria de los combustibles f\u00f3siles, al no gravar el combustible mar\u00edtimo y permitir que se queme en el mar el sucio subproducto f\u00f3sil HFO, adem\u00e1s de su falta de regulaci\u00f3n del transporte mar\u00edtimo petroqu\u00edmico peligroso, la lista de fechor\u00edas y direcciones equivocadas de la OMI empieza a ser realmente larga. A la vista de esta lista cada vez m\u00e1s larga, \u00bfno es hora de que las competencias medioambientales de la OMI sean gestionadas por otra agencia de la ONU mejor?  La vida es demasiado importante como para desperdiciarla en manos de una burocracia inepta.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>La Rebeli\u00f3n del Oc\u00e9ano exige:<\/strong><br><strong>La ONU debe formar un nuevo organismo, transparente y representativo, que gobierne el Oc\u00e9ano en beneficio de TODA la vida. Este nuevo organismo debe tener como \u00fanica medida de \u00e9xito la restauraci\u00f3n y reposici\u00f3n del Oc\u00e9ano. Debe sustituir el poder de las empresas por el poder de las personas.
